About the Neighborhood

Once the center of a 51,000 "koku" fiefdom ruled by the Ito clan for close to three centuries, Obi is a quaint castle town with streets lined with samurai and merchant villas. Moss covered shrines, Obi Castle, and a "Han" school built by the Ito Clan are among some of the cultural gems that make up Obi's Edo-period townscape. Enjoy experiences such as "shimanto" archery, as well as local cuisine such as Miyazaki style grilled chicken, or Obi-made "shochu". Nearby places to visit include Udo Shrine, the Sakamoto Rice Terraces, and the Nichinan beaches, popular for surfing and other marine sports.
